Paradise Reimagined: MSC Cruises Unveils Ocean Cay’s Luxurious New Chapter
There are private islands, and then there’s Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. Tucked into the aquamarine embrace of the Bahamas, MSC Cruises’ cherished destination is about to become even more irresistible. By late 2027, this former industrial site — reborn as a model of sustainable luxury — will welcome guests to its most ambitious transformation yet. A Canvas of Crystal Waters and White Sand Since its debut in 2019, Ocean Cay has captivated with its two miles of pristine beachfront, seven world‑class beaches, and commitment to marine conservation. Guests arrive by ship to walk straight ashore, then spend their day drifting between turquoise lagoons, watersports, and sunset cocktails at seven stylish beach bars. Now, MSC Cruises is elevating the experience with new dining, exclusive retreats, and expanded infrastructure — all while preserving the island’s natural soul. New Horizons of Island Elegance From late 2027, Ocean Cay will unveil: Culinary Excellence Four new dining destinations — including a signature specialty restaurant and vibrant food market — bring the total to seven venues. Fresh Bahamian flavours meet sophisticated seaside dining. Seakers Cove Family Beach A playful oasis for all generations: splashpads, water‑ropes courses, ping‑pong, foosball, and beach tournaments create joyful memories amid the sand and surf. Paradise Sands An adults-only sanctuary where tranquillity reigns by day and chic sunset cocktails flow by night — the perfect escape for sophisticated relaxation. Expanded Luxury Cabanas New styles and prime locations offer even more ways to enjoy shaded sophistication with personalised service. MSC Foundation Conservation Experience The immersive “Shifting Perspective” program invites guests into coral restoration, marine science, and hands‑on ocean stewardship — luxury with purpose. A Bigger Welcome to Paradise Construction has begun on an extended pier to accommodate two MSC ships simultaneously, meaning more guests can experience Ocean Cay’s magic without compromise. Adjacent Little Cay — MSC’s second island vision — promises to extend this legacy of pristine beauty and refined hospitality. The Art of Sustainable Splendour Ocean Cay represents luxury travel at its most enlightened: where conservation and comfort coexist. Climb the iconic lighthouse for panoramic views. Snorkel vibrant reefs. Or simply surrender to the rhythm of the waves from your private cabana. By 2027, MSC Cruises will have perfected the private island escape, a destination that doesn’t just enchant but inspires. Discover your next voyage at www.msccruises.com.
MSC Cruises’ First Alaska Season in 2026: Inside the 7‑Night MSC Poesia Itineraries from Seattle
MSC Cruises will sail to Alaska for the first time in May 2026, launching a season of seven‑night roundtrip voyages from Seattle aboard MSC Poesia. These itineraries combine classic ports like Ketchikan, Juneau and Victoria with scenic cruising through Tracy Arm Fjord and a full day at Icy Strait Point, giving guests glacier views, wildlife encounters and Indigenous culture in one week‑long journey. MSC Poesia’s 7‑Night Alaska Route from Seattle Throughout summer 2026, MSC Poesia will homeport in Seattle and operate weekly seven‑night cruises that call at Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point and Juneau in Alaska, plus Victoria in British Columbia. The ship will also sail through Tracy Arm Fjord, so guests can watch towering cliffs, waterfalls and the blue ice of Sawyer Glacier from their balcony or up on deck. MSC describes Poesia as a mid‑sized ship well suited to the Inside Passage, with a high proportion of balcony cabins and, following a 2026 refit, an all‑new MSC Yacht Club suite complex for guests seeking a more exclusive onboard experience. Ketchikan: Totems, Misty Fjords and Wildlife Ketchikan, known as the “Salmon Capital of the World”, also serves as a gateway to Alaska Native culture and the rainforest‑lined Inside Passage. Guests can: Visit Totem Bight Historical Park to see restored totem poles and a traditional Tlingit clan house, learning about the artistry and stories carved into each pole. Join a Misty Fjords flightseeing excursion by seaplane for aerial views of sheer granite walls, hidden lakes and forested inlets inside Misty Fjords National Monument. Board the Bering Sea Crab Fishermen’s Tour to watch working crew haul up pots with crabs, octopus and prawns while sharing first‑hand stories from the Bering Sea. Explore the Rainforest Sanctuary & Totem Park near Herring Cove on an eco‑walk through Tongass National Forest, with the chance to see bald eagles, black bears, seals and a variety of birdlife. Icy Strait Point: Whales, Brown Bears and Sky‑High Views At Icy Strait Point, a locally owned destination near the Tlingit community of Hoonah, the focus is on wild Alaska rather than urban sights. MSC’s sample excursions here include: Whales, Wildlife and Bear Search – a boat tour of Point Adolphus, famous for humpback whales, sea lions and porpoises, followed by a guided search on Chichagof Island, which has one of the highest densities of coastal brown bears in the world. Mountaintop Forest Excursion – a gondola ride from the waterfront up more than 1,500 feet to Sky Peak for 360‑degree views over islands and mountains, then an open‑air safari bus journey through old‑growth forest along ridgelines and valleys. These experiences are designed to deliver the “Alaska wilderness” feeling while still being accessible on a one‑day port call. Tracy Arm Fjord: Scenic Cruising to Sawyer Glacier On select days, MSC Poesia will sail through Tracy Arm Fjord, one of Southeast Alaska’s most dramatic glacier‑carved channels. Guests can line the rails or watch from their balcony as the ship passes steep granite walls draped with waterfalls, floating ice and dense forest, culminating in views of South Sawyer Glacier, where blue ice cliffs calve into the water. This scenic segment is often a highlight for photographers and those who prefer to experience Alaska’s landscapes from the comfort of the ship. Juneau: Glaciers, Dogsledding and Evening Whale Watching Alaska’s capital, Juneau, offers a blend of frontier charm, Indigenous heritage and easy access to glaciers and marine life. Highlight excursions for MSC guests include: Dog Sledding on the Mendenhall Glacier by Helicopter – a helicopter flight over the Juneau Icefield to a remote dog camp on Mendenhall Glacier, where professional mushers and Alaskan huskies take guests on a dogsled ride across the snow. Alaska Culinary Experience and Evening Whale Quest – an evening catamaran cruise featuring Alaska‑inspired appetisers while naturalists point out humpback whales and explain local geography, with sunset views over surrounding peaks. Other options include visits to Whale Park, hiking in the Mendenhall Valley and independent exploration of Juneau’s compact downtown. Victoria, British Columbia: Gardens, Harbour Lights and E‑Bike Touring On the return leg to Seattle, MSC Poesia calls at Victoria on Vancouver Island, known for its walkable Inner Harbour, British‑influenced architecture and manicured gardens. Excursions here include: Evening Butchart Gardens Experience and Sightseeing Tour – a twilight visit to the famed Butchart Gardens, when paths and ponds are softly illuminated and the atmosphere turns almost storybook, followed by a drive past the Fairmont Empress Hotel and BC Legislative Buildings around Inner Harbour. Protectours: Discover Victoria by E‑Bike – a low‑impact shore tour aligned with MSC’s Protectours program, cycling from the harbour and Chinatown to the Johnson Street Bridge and Songhees waterway to showcase coastal views, historic neighbourhoods and city parks in a more sustainable way. Booking MSC’s First Alaska Cruises MSC Poesia’s 2026 Alaska season runs from May through September, with multiple seven‑night departures now on sale. Guests can choose from a variety of dates and cabin types, including a large selection of balcony cabins and, after the ship’s refit, the new MSC Yacht Club for those seeking a more private, suite‑style experience. For full itinerary details, dates and pricing, travellers can visit MSC’s dedicated Alaska destination page or speak with a cruise specialist familiar with Alaska’s short summer season and optimal months for wildlife and glacier viewing.
Drew Barrymore joins MSC Cruises for new ship launch
Drew Barrymore, renowned actress and host, has teamed up with MSC Cruises to celebrate the launch of sales for the MSC World Atlantic, set to sail from Port Canaveral starting 13 November 2027. As the godmother of MSC World America, Barrymore brings her signature charm to the announcement, highlighting the ship's blend of European style and American comfort. The MSC World Atlantic will offer alternating seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, including stops at iconic destinations such as Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve in the Bahamas. The ship promises a rich cultural experience with more than 30 bars, restaurants, and lounges, including the new Viva La Musica bar, which celebrates Latin culture with live music and salsa dancing. Barrymore expressed her pride in her role, stating, "When MSC Cruises first asked me to be the godmother of MSC World America, I was a little bit shy about it... I couldn't be prouder." The ship will also introduce The Clubhouse, a retro-inspired venue offering family-friendly activities and entertainment. MSC Cruises North America President Lynn Torrent noted the ship's appeal, saying, "We're building on the best of MSC World Europa and MSC World America by introducing new spaces, fresh entertainment options, and unforgettable moments at sea." The MSC World Atlantic will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and equipped with advanced environmental technologies, including shore power connectivity and a comprehensive recycling management system. This aligns with MSC Cruises' commitment to sustainability and reducing environmental impact. With bookings now open, MSC Voyagers Club members can enjoy exclusive benefits, including extra points and onboard credits. The MSC World Atlantic promises to deliver an unforgettable cruise experience, blending diverse cultures and innovative amenities. ```
MSC Cruises Doubles Down: Two New World-Class Ships Announced Amid Soaring Expansion
In a bold move that reveals its global ambitions, MSC Cruises has announced the order of two brand-new World-class ships—raising the category’s fleet to a remarkable eight vessels. The massive €3.5 billion (A$6.2 billion) investment was revealed during the ceremonial float-out of MSC World Asia, the third World-class ship scheduled to join the fleet in 2026. Set to begin construction in 2029 in partnership with French shipbuilder Chantiers de l’Atlantique, these new ships will further cement MSC’s status as an industry powerhouse. With this commitment, MSC’s total investment with the shipyard now approaches €7 billion, spotlighting both its confidence in the future of cruise travel and its intent to dominate the global market. Next-Generation Cruising Experience MSC’s World-class ships are celebrated for their advanced design, energy efficiency, and an impressive capacity to carry nearly 7,000 guests. Each offers a next-generation cruise experience—think pioneering amenities, immersive entertainment, and cutting-edge sustainability features. For cruise lovers, the news means not only a broader choice of ships but also fresh, innovative destinations on the horizon. Where Growth Meets Growing Pains Yet despite the impressive hardware, one persistent challenge remains: MSC Cruises’ customer service and complaint handling falls short of industry standards. A recent personal experience underscores this, with a serious complaint languishing for more than three months before receiving a vague, unresolved response. The only explanation? “We’re really busy.” If true, this hints at an overwhelming volume of unresolved issues that MSC is failing to address in pace with its fleet expansion. A Call to Balance Innovation and Service For a company ready to invest billions in the ships of tomorrow, it’s baffling why the same effort isn’t extended to guest relations today. As MSC Cruises continues its dynamic expansion, cruise guests worldwide eagerly await a future where technological leaps at sea are matched by genuine care and responsiveness on land. Visit the official MSC Cruises website for details on upcoming ships and itineraries. Continue Reading
