Sunny weather in the UK impacted the number of overseas holidays taken, according to new ABTA research.
The association has attributed our warm summer to a decrease in the number of holidays taken per person in the last year, with the late market in July and August seeing a fall in numbers.
Catching rays was named as the top reason for wanting to go on holiday, in the latest consumer report published by the association.
UK consumers are said to have taken 3.1 holidays in the last 12 months, compared to 3.5 in 2012. Eight in 10 Brits have taken a holiday in the last year, which is the same as last year.
More than half of bookings (54%) are not the traditional package holiday, with many of those opting for the latter now doing so an on all-inclusive basis. When asked by ABTA 35% said they booked a package because it was all-inclusive.
City breaks and beach holidays are now on par with popularity, with 41% of Brits taking each. The two holiday types were far ahead of others such as an all-inclusive holiday (15%) and a lakes and mountains trip (10%).
Looking ahead into 2014, 49.5% of respondents told ABTA they look to spend the same amount of money on holidays next year, while 18.7% look to spend more. However 15.7% said they will spend less.
