Accor Hotels has added a new island resort to its Queensland portfolio; the Grand Mercure Apartments Magnetic Island. It is the second new Grand Mercure to be announced for Queensland this month, with Grand Mercure Apartments Coolangatta officially launching last week.
The existing 124-room apartment resort, One Bright Point has been rebranded under the Grand Mercure Apartments label. It is Accor’s second hotel on Magnetic Island, following the all seasons Magnetic Island hotel.
Located just 8km off the coast of Townsville, Magnetic Island is set in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef. The new Grand Mercure will include a range of one-, two- and three-bedroom self-contained apartments, four swimming pools including a rooftop pool, exercise rooms and outdoor entertainment area.
Each one-bedroom apartment comes with a queen sized bed, balcony, cable television and DVD player. Apartments also feature a kitchen fully equipped with stainless steel appliances plus laundry facilities.
The hotel’s General Manager, Rita Dickinson commented; “We are very excited to offer a high end accommodation option to the Accor network on Magnetic Island, which is undoubtedly one of the shining stars and a natural haven here in the northern Queensland.
“With nearly 80% of the island a protected National Park, the Grand Mercure is perfectly located to offer visitors the best of both worlds – beautiful secluded beaches and scenic walking tracks by day, and indulgent creature comforts within their apartments when they return to civilisation and Nelly Bay each afternoon to unwind.”
