Accor has commenced the roll-out of a new lobby concept in Australia.
The new-look reception space was first unveiled in London last year, and this month the new lobby made its Australian debut at the Mercure Brisbane.
Following the hotel’s multi-million dollar room refurbishment, the new lobby is designed as an “interactive” space with Apple computer stations, self-service Nespresso coffee machines and a new reading area with iPads. Check-in pods with tablet computers have replaced the traditional front desk, opening up more space, while there is also a new concierge desk.
“We look at the lobby like a global space where you can check in, enjoy a free coffee, read or catch up online, and even meet with friends and colleagues in a casual and comfortable space,” said Mercure Brisbane’s general manager, Mark Wilkinson.
“It’s a much more modern and appealing area for everyone. We’ve had positive feedback already from guests enjoying the more natural, side by side approach of conversing with our team members, without the barrier of a traditional bench in between.”
Mercure’s new lobby concept will now be rolled out across Australia over the next three to four years.
