Accor Group has reiterated its confidence in the Egyptian tourism sector, offering its employees in the country financial support following the popular uprising in February.Thierry de Jaham, managing director of Accor Egypt stated: “Accor Group is dedicated to maintaining the stability of work conditions for the 5,000 employees working at Accor hotels. The management considers these employees the basis of the Group’s success throughout its hotels in Cairo, Alexandria, Ismailia, Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab and Luxor.”Human resources are the backbone of success for an important service sector such as the hotel industry. From this perspective, Accor Egypt is committed to continue its effort in providing a safe and stable work environment for all employees to improve their financial status to face the burdens imposed by the current circumstances in the Egyptian tourism market, which have resulted in partial income loss. “Therefore, Accor granted a temporary compensation to all hotel employees as an alternative to service charge for a period of three months, from February until April 2011, as well as a 15% raise in accordance with the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces’ decree, upon approval by the private sector.”The hotels’ management took several encouraging measures to support employees including open contracts for those who have spent four consecutive years working at any of its hotels, according to the company’s internal contract regulations, in addition to new contracts for employees whose contracts expired during this period. The Group is also currently reviewing some studies regarding the updating of employee privileges.”The Egyptian tourism market enjoys numerous tourist attractions that must be preserved, provided that all efforts are combined to promote this sector, which is vital to the Egyptian national economy,” added de Jaham.
