Accor continues rapid India growth

Accor has announced the further expansion of its hotel network in India, with 48 hotels, totalling 9,980 in development across its portfolio of brands. It also plans to manage three convention centres in India. This year will see a further three Accor hotels with 522 rooms opening; namely the Ibis Pune, the Novotel Mumbai Juhu Beach and India’s first Mercure in Bengaluru. Accor currently operates three hotels in India – the Ibis Gurgaon, the Novotel Hyderabad Airport and the Novotel Hyderabad.
Further expansion will see Sofitel launch three hotels in Mumbai, including the flagship Sofitel Mumbai. Accor has also launched its new upscale brand, Pullman, in India, with projects in Gurgaon and Lavasa, both scheduled to open in 2010. Novotel has 15 hotels committed with close to 4,000 rooms, covering key cities including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune and Hyderabad. Mercure plans a major push into ‘Tier 2’ cities across India, while Ibis has 14 projects committed across 10 destinations in India. Formule 1, Accor’s budget brand has committed to four projects.
Accor will also be opening the Lavasa Lakes Convention & Events Centre at Lavasa and the Convention Centre at Nirmal Lifestyles, Mulund.
Michael Issenberg, Accor Asia Pacific Chairman and CEO, commented; “India is a land of promise for Accor. Almost five years ago we made a commitment to launch and grow our business in India to include Accor’s core brands, and to have 50 hotels open in India by 2012. We are well on our way to achieving this ambition.”
