The Accor hotel group and its hotel owners have pledged to donate NZ$2 for every room sold at its New Zealand properties to aid the Christchurch earthquake relief effort. Accor will donate the money per room per night until 31 March and hopes to raise more than NZ$200,000. “It’s important to note that this is not a guest levy but a direct donation being contributed by each hotel,” added Paul Richardson, vice president of Accor Hotels New Zealand. “Put simply, the more you stay, the more Accor will pay and contribute over the next 35 days. We encourage travellers and our tourism industry partners to help us help the people of Christchurch as they face what will be a highly emotional and challenging recovery period in the coming weeks.” Accor has 29 hotels across New Zealand under the Sofitel, Pullman, MGallery, Grand Mercure, Novotel, Mercure, All Seasons and ibis brands. Three of Accor’s Christchurch hotels are currently closed, with another opened exclusively for emergency workers.
