Accor has announced the opening of its latest hotel in Sydney. The former Landmark Potts Point Hotel The Crest, which had been closed for two years, is now known as the Mercure Sydney Potts Point and will add 227 rooms to Sydney’s inventory.
The hotel’s relaunch comes at a time when Potts Point and the surrounding Kings Cross and Darlinghurst areas are undergoing a major process of gentrification. A high level of development in the commercial, retail and residential sectors has seen Potts Point become one of Sydney’s most up-and-coming communities, with more than 250 restaurants, cafes and bars within walking distance of the hotel.
The former Crest was recently upgraded with a AU$30 million (US$30.5 million) refurbishment, with new furniture and fittings and a modern design by Marques Interiors.
Set high on Victoria Street above Kings Cross Station, the Mercure Sydney Potts Point offers views of the Harbour Bridge, Opera House and Sydney’s east and features a huge outdoor terrace and four meeting rooms for up to 300 delegates.
Mercure is the largest mid-market hotel brand in Australia, with 28 hotels across the country and more than 670 hotels in 50 countries globally.
