Aeromexico has revealed images of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, which will be named Quetzalcoatl (meaning “Feathered Serpent”).
The long-haul jet emerged from the factory recently following nine days of painting. The livery was chosen following a public contest, which received more than 1,000 entries. The winning design was created by graphic designer José Manuel Escudero.
“We are very excited about the buzz the Quetzalcoatl design has generated. As Mexico’s flagship carrier, this aircraft will become an icon of our fleet and a reflection of what Mexico is today, with culture and tradition represented in what we consider to be one of the most sophisticated creations of modern aviation engineering,” stated Aeromexico’s CEO, Andres Conesa.
“We hope this plane will make our country proud. Quetzalcoatl will fly between major airports in Europe and Asia visited by millions of travellers each year.”
Aeromexico has placed firm orders for six B787-9s, with deliveries due to commenced this year. These two-class aircraft will feature 48 more seats than the existing B787-8s.
