Aerothai will launch the new system on Thursday and according to President Priti Hetrakul, the system will be provided for west-bound aircraft from Asian airports transiting Afghan air space to European destinations.
The new system could reduce flight time by up to an hour that will improve air traffic congestion over the Afghanistan.
This also means that aircraft fuel consumption will also be reduced and which will highly contribute to the global cause in preserving the environment.
Mr. Hetrakul said the company will be servicing 50-60 flights a day by 30 airlines departing for Europe from airports in Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, India, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Malaysia.
He also said that the new technology was developed over the past two years and the project was assigned by the International Civil Aviation Organisation to create the ‘Bay of Bengal Cooperative Air-Traffic-Flow Management System (Bobcat) to manage the west-bound aircraft operating over Afghanistan during the busy nighttime period.
Aerothai has invested more than Bt10 million in technologies to successfully complete and operate the project.
This is the way it works; Bobcat will control flights entering Afghanistan airspace, and designate a suitable flight path that will reduce the need for detours.
The operation has been on trial since last year with the participation of more than 30 airlines and results have shown that the ATFM system is significantly reliable and could meet the requirements of all the participants.
Aerothai will not charge airlines for the service during the first period of implementation and will commence billing later on.
