Having pledged INR6 billion (US$90 million) of tourism funding to Bihar last week, India’s Ministry of Tourism is now looking to help another northeastern state, Mizoram.
John Rotluangliana, Mizoram’s Tourism Minister, met with Dr Mahesh Sharma, India’s Minister of Tourism, Culture & Civil Aviation, in New Delhi on Friday, with a view to securing state funding for the development of tourism in the state.
Rotluangliana has reportedly submitted proposals for two tourism projects in Mizoram; an eco-tourism, adventure sports and wellness development at Serlui B Lake, and an eco-tourism at Thenzawl, which lies approximately 43km from the state capital, Aizawl.
Dr Sharma is reported to have assured Rotluangliana that the requests “will be examined”, and that “all possible assistance will be extended to help the state of Mizoram for development of tourism”.
Mizoram is already included in the Indian government’s ‘North East Circuit’ tourism project, which aims to link key destinations in the remote region.
Mizoram is located in the far east of India, bordering both Bangladesh and Myanmar.
