As the business and political community in the Philippines back tourism development, destinations are looking for way to distinguish themselves in the domestic and international market place. Tourism authorities in Benguet Province, Luzon, are exploring the potential of ‘agro-eco tourism’. This concept combines environmental tourism and farm-based holidays that give visitors the chance to live and work on local farms. Provincial Tourism Operations officer Clarita Prudencio told the Philippine Information Agency that agricultural farms for tourism purposes will be developed and promoted to include not only organic farms but also conventional farms. Identification of farmlands willing to participate will be done during the Agro-tourism Summit to be held on 18 November in Prudencio. Municipal Agriculture Officers and Municipal Tourism Action Officers will participate.
