Mumbai, Maharashtra, April 5, 2010 /India PRwire/ — Air Arabia, India’s first foreign low-cost carrier (LCC) and the first and largest LCC in the Middle East and North Africa completed five years of successful operations in India. The airline has posted steady growth and driven significant value to its customer base across India, with its philosophy of offering value for money and greater connectivity to the UAE and beyond.
Air Arabia is the first international low cost airline to commence services between India and the UAE, starting with daily flights from Mumbai to Sharjah on 26th March 2005. Currently, the airline offers 102 flights a week, flying directly from its hub in Sharjah to 13 Cities in India. The destinations are Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Jaipur, Kochi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Coimbatore, Thiruvanathapuram, Hyderabad, Kozhikode, Delhi and Goa, which represents the most comprehensive destination network of any international airline in India.
The airline has served over 3.9 million passengers in India in the last five years of operations. Air Arabia’s average seat factor – or passengers carried as a percentage of available seats – over the past five years has stood at an impressive average of 89%.
Speaking on the occasion of the Airline’s fifth anniversary in India, Adel Ali, Group Chief Executive Officer, Air Arabia said, ‘It is a very proud moment for all of us at Air Arabia. We delivered our promise to the Indian people by offering best rates in the market and flying to cities, no other airline served before. In the last five years, we have opened up affordable air travel to the Indian community living in the Gulf and will continue to offer comprehensive route network and connectivity across the country.
In an emerging market like India, Air Arabia’s strategy of providing affordable, value for money travel for customers, with a focus on services to non-metro cities has resulted in continuous growth year on year. The airline has made efforts to operate to smaller, less congested airports closer to the customer base, which has been the hallmark of Arabia’s service in India. In addition to large cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad and Chennai, Air Arabia operates in smaller cities such as Nagpur, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Cochin, Coimbatore, Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvanathapuram, making it easier for the airlines customers to fly to their destinations directly from their home town. In fact, Air Arabia was the first international airline to commence operations from Nagpur in October 2005. In April 2009, Air Arabia became the first UAE based airline to offer direct flights to Goa.
Air Arabia was also the first low cost carrier to offer free visa assistance for Sharjah and to promote short break holidays into India. New Airbus A320 aircraft, the best leg room of any economy class travel, free hotel and car assistance are just some of the added benefits of flying Air Arabia. Air Arabia’s main base is Sharjah International Airport, ideally situated for customers to enjoy the benefits of quick access to Dubai, fast check-in processes, low congestion, friendly airport staff and convenient connection timings.
