Air China has unveiled plans to launch a new direct service between the capital cities of China and the US – Beijing and Washington DC.
Launching on 10 June 2014, the new flights will operate four times a week, departing Beijing’s Capital International Airport every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 1300, and arriving at Washington DC’s Dulles International Airport at 1435. The return flight will then leave the US capital at 1635, getting back into Beijing at 1815 the following day.
The route will be operated using Air China’s new 311-seat Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, featuring eight seats in first class, 42 in business class and 261 in economy. All seats come with personal in-flight entertainment system and in-seat power outlets.
Air China said it was launching the new route “to meet the strong demand for travel to the United States”.
“North America is the world’s largest and most well-established aviation market, while China is the world’s most promising,” the national carrier said in a statement. “In 2012, the United States became one of the most appealing tourist destinations abroad for Chinese travellers, and the United States enjoyed the highest growth rate of Chinese travellers compared with other parts of the world.”
Washington DC will become Air China’s sixth destination in the US, following New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston and Hawaii.
The Chinese carrier will become on the second airline flying direct between the capitals of the world’s two biggest economic powers, following United Airlines.
