Air China will expand its operations in South Asia next year with the launch of a new route to Colombo.
Commencing in early February 2015, the Chinese national carrier will operate four weekly flights to the Sri Lankan capital, direct from its base in Chengdu, the capital of southwest China’s Sichuan province.
This service will mark the first ever direct link between the two cities.
Air China will deploy a brand-new twin-aisle Airbus A330 aircraft on the new route, with flights operating every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Details of departure and arrival times will be announced at a later date.
Colombo becomes Air China’s fourth destination in South Asia, following Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kathmandu.
Rival China Eastern Airlines currently operates three weekly services to Colombo from Kunming, another major city in southwest China.
