Air China will trial a new high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi system onboard its Airbus A330 aircraft.
An agreement with Honeywell Aerospace will see the Chinese carrier install and test the Inmarsat GX Aviation solution from the second quarter of 2015.
“We are pleased that Air China has chosen to install the GX Aviation system on their aircraft. Air China has led the movement into passenger connectivity in China with their earlier installation of Inmarsat Swift Broadband and now GX Aviation allows them to continue that leadership and take the passenger experience to a new level,” said Bill Peltola, Inmarsat’s vice president of aviation.
“This agreement gives Air China the opportunity to stay at the forefront of a highly competitive market in Asia.”
Inmarsat GX Aviation offers 50mbps in-flight broadband services for both passengers and airline operations. The system will utilise three satellites, the first of which was launched by Inmarsat late last year.
