Air India has dismissed 45 flight attendants in the last six months, it has been revealed.
The Economic Times cited an unnamed airline official as saying this week that the cabin crew were sacked for not reporting for duty. And the clampdown on absenteeism will continue in the coming months, with 59 more flight attendants serving their final notices, according to the report.
“We began this drive last year when we saw a large gap between the number of cabin crew on our rolls and the number reporting for work,” the anonymous executive was quoted saying.
Under the cabin crew clampdown, the national carrier reportedly sent notices to staff who were absent from work for more than 15 days without a valid reason.
Air India currently employs approximately 3,400 flight attendants.
