Following the launch of direct flights between Delhi and San Francisco this week, Air India is considering further expansion in the US.
The Economic Times reported Indian aviation officials as saying that the national carrier is planning to launch a new route to Washington DC. If the route goes ahead, it will become the first direct connection between Delhi and Washington DC – the capital cities of two of the world’s largest economies.
“I have been informed by Air India that it is considering a direct flight to Washington,” India’s Civil Aviation Minister, Ashok Gajapathi Raju, was quoted saying.
Air India’s new Delhi-San Francisco route gets underway on Wednesday 2 December, and will operate three times a week (Wednesday, Friday and Sunday) using a Boeing 777-200LR aircraft.
This will mark the airline’s fourth destination in the US, following New York JFK, Newark and Chicago.
