Air India will ground its thrice weekly Kolkata-London services from 28 October, barely three months after it was reintroduced. The Times of India has reported that the cessation was driven by poor load factors and an inconvenient flight schedule.
“The Kolkata-London flight was axed as it was hardly drawing passengers,” an Air India official was quoted as saying. They added that an 8-hour wait at Heathrow for passengers travelling on to the US attributed to poor demand.
Air India’s pull-out leaves just British Airways serving the route direct.
