Air India to woo economy flyers to travel business class

In a new initiative for international and domestic passengers, Air India will offer upgrade vouchers ranging from INR4,000 to INR6,000 in the domestic sector and US$200-300 (INR9,809 – 14,713) for international flights to and from destinations like London and Toronto. This initiative is a part of the airline’s turnaround plan which targets additional revenue of INR1,000-1,200 crore annually by upgrading economy class passengers to business class.
The upgrade vouchers can be purchased from the Air India website, counters and other designated centers and would enable economy class passenger to upgrade to business class at the time of check-in, subject to availability of seats, the sources informed Economic Times. On the international sector, Air India aims to raise business class load factor by 50%, they said. Air India’s average international load factor is about 60% and between 70-73% domestic on domestic routes.
