Air New Zealand has launched its first flight to Kapiti Coast Airport, in Paraparaumu, which is located in the southwest of New Zealand’s North Island. The flight, operated by Air New Zealand’s subsidiary Air Nelson, marks first time a Bombardier Q300 aircraft has flown into the airport following a NZ$3 million (US$2.6 million) runway upgrade.
Today’s test flight was designed to enable both Air New Zealand and the airport company to run through the operating procedures ahead of the regular service commencing in October.
Air Nelson General Manager Grant Kerr, said; “The proving flight marks a significant step to the launch of the new daily service, which will link the Kapiti Coast to Auckland with 18 return flights a week. We expect the daily service to see strong interest from both business and leisure travellers throughout the Kapiti district.
“The new service is also likely to benefit many Wellington-based travellers who may find it easier to go to Paraparaumu rather than travel through the city to Wellington Airport,” Kerr added.
The regular scheduled operations between Auckland and Paraparaumu, which commence on 25 October, will be operated by the 50-seater Q300 aircraft.
