Air rage granny fined for punching passenger
A grandmother who got drunk on a flight and punched a fellow passenger in the face has been fined almost US$21,000 by a court in Australia.
The 58 year-old was on a Qantas flight from Melbourne to New Zealand on Saturday when she began punching seats and screaming at passengers and crew, the Australian Associated Press (AAP) reported. She then lashed out at a male passenger, hitting him in the face and leaving him bleeding heavily.
The grandma had to be restrained by crew and handcuffed, and the flight was forced to return to Australia. She was ordered to pay nearly US$3,500 to the man she hit and approximately US$18,000 to Qantas for the cost of diverting the flight
The magistrate called her behaviour “appalling”.
