An air-traffic controller let his nine year-old son direct planes at New York’s JFK airport, the NY Daily News has reported authorities as saying. The controller and a supervisor have been suspended while the incident is investigated. On 16 February, the boy reportedly spoke to pilots operating four separate planes, including clearing a JetBlue flight for takeoff. The pilots reportedly took the instructions in good humour, but regulators weren’t amused.
“This lapse in judgment not only violated FAA’s own policies, but common sense standards for professional conduct,” the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Randy Babbitt was quoted saying.
