AirAsia India announced yesterday that it had received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA).
“We will continue with our preparations and get ourselves ready for take-off once the air operator permit is acquired. We look forward to being one of the dynamic contributors to the development of the Indian aviation industry,” Mittu Chandilya, CEO of AirAsia India was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
The airline, which is a joint venture between Air Asia, Tata Sons and Telestra Tradeplace, received a formal approval from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board of India in April. The airline currently has a fleet of three Airbus A320 aircraft and over 200 employees.
Tony Fernandes, group CEO of AirAsia tweeted saying, “I am thrilled to announce that AirAsia India has received NOC approval from the government of India. Very exciting and hugely profitable.”
AirAsia India will now apply to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for its Scheduled Operators Permit (SOP), which is the final step before it can start commercial operations.
