AirAsia has launched a new initiative allowing passengers to book multiple flights across the ASEAN region.

Under the new AirAsia ASEAN Pass, travellers will be able to use pre-purchased credits to book flights at a fixed-rate across routes within ASEAN. The scheme was unveiled this week and will be launched commercially in January 2015.

“We are proud of being a true ASEAN airline, serving all 10 ASEAN member countries,” said Tony Fernandes, AirAsia’s group CEO. “With the dawning of the ASEAN Economic Community and progress on ASEAN Open Skies, we are pleased to promote ASEAN integration by helping to bridge ASEAN communities.

“The ASEAN Single Aviation Market is something we take seriously and we are confident the introduction of this ASEAN Pass will boost air travel within the ASEAN communities, as well as attract foreign tourists to this region,” he added.

AirAsia ASEAN Pass holders will be able to purchase flights for approximately 140 routes throughout ASEAN using the credits, which AirAsia promises will be offered at “very low rates”. Routes will range of one to eight credits, and passengers will be able to earn AirAsia’s BIG reward points on the flights.

“The most convenient way to move around ASEAN is by air, given that we live in places separated by large bodies of water, as well as being home to the two largest archipelago nations in the world – Indonesia and the Philippines. The challenge was to make air travel affordable, and AirAsia has lived up to our promise so far; but it’s time to push the envelope further and the ASEAN Pass will be the catalyst for a new chapter of air travel with AirAsia,” added Fernandes.
