AirAsia mulls Don Mueang shift
AirAsia is considering moving its Thai operations to Bangkok’s old airport, Don Mueang, the Bangkok Post has reported. AirAsia is wary of Airports of Thailand (AoT) may request carriers to shift operations to Don Mueang while Suvarnabhumi is being upgraded, however the Malaysian low-cost carrier is not prepared to accept a temporary move.
Tassapon Bijleveld, Chief Executive of Thai AirAsia, said yesterday the airline was prepared for the move if AoT gave written guarantee of its permanency.
“We would hate to find, after being at Don Mueang for a while, that we were told to return to Suvarnabhumi,” Tassapon said. “But we would be happy to shift quickly to Don Mueang if AoT could assure us we could remain at Don Mueang for at least five years.”
