AirAsia profits surge 111% in 2010

AirAsia Bhd has posted a net profit of MYR1.07 billion (US$351 million) for 2010 - 110.7% higher than the previous year. The strong performance was driven by revenues of nearly MYR4 billion - 25.6% more than in 2009 – as the low-cost carrier group experienced a 13% increase in passenger traffic. In total AirAsia carried 16.1 million passengers in 2010, compared to 14.3 million the previous year, with load factors rising three percentage points to 78%. AirAsia’s average fare in 2010 was MYR177 - 5% higher than in 2009.
