AirAsia traffic surges 26% in Q1

The AirAsia Group has released its performance results for the first quarter of 2011, with traffic, measured in revenue passenger kilometres (RPK), surging 25.9% year-on-year. This boosted the airline’s average load factors to 81% – up six points from the 75% load factor seen in Q1 2010. The group’s Indonesian subsidiary, AirAsia Indonesia, saw the largest traffic growth with RPK jumping 33.1%, with load factors averaging 79%. Thai AirAsia experienced a 23.5% increase in demand with load factors of 84% – the highest of the group’s regional units. Malaysia AirAsia achieved a 24.9% rise in RPK and load factors of 80%. AirAsia Group’s fleet size stood at 93 aircraft at the end of Q1 2011 – 10 more than the same quarter last year.
