AirAsia traffic surges in July

AirAsia has reported a 19.3% year-on-year jump in passenger traffic in July 2011. The Kuala Lumpur-based budget airline group carried 2.65 million passengers last month, compared to 2.22 million in July 2010, with average load factors rising three percentage points to 82%.
The airline’s Indonesian subsidiary recorded the largest increase, with passenger numbers surging 44.4% to 541,200. This was matched by the unit’s capacity expansion however, meaning that load factors remained flat at 84%.
Thai AirAsia carried 567,100 passengers in July 2011 – a 20.8% year-on-year rise – with load factors climbing from 77% to 82%.
Finally Malaysia AirAsia experienced a 12.1% increase in passenger numbers, to 1.54 million, with load factors rising three percentage points to 81%.
