AirAsia unveils Malaysian livery
AirAsia has unveiled a new livery designed to celebrate its home country, Malaysia.
The new livery, which has been adopted on the airline’s latest Kuala Lumpur-based Airbus A320 aircraft, is designed to recognise the 1Malaysia concept, which was launched by the Malaysian government in 2010 promote national unity.
Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Najib Abdul Razak, officially launched the 1Malaysia aircraft at an event at KL’s Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) on Saturday.
“I am very proud to be Malaysian and I am sure my extended family of AirAsia Allstars (the airline’s staff), whether they are Malaysians or not, are also proud to embrace the concept of 1Malaysia,” said AirAsia’s Group CEO, Tony Fernandes. “The success of AirAsia is also attributed to Dato’ Sri Najib’s decision to open up our skies before year 2015, when the open skies policy will be implemented throughout the ASEAN region and I would like to applaud him for that move.”
AirAsia has a history of decorating its aircraft with special liveries to mark its various partnerships or promotions. It has previously featured a ‘Visit Malaysia’ livery to mark its tie-up with Tourism Malaysia, and an ASEAN aircraft to pay homage to the Southeast Asian bloc. It has also painted one A320 with the faces of popular Thai rock band Carabao, and others in the colours of its sporting partnerships, such as the Caterham F1 team and Queen’s Park Rangers FC.
The 1Malaysia livery took 20 workers 12 days to complete, using the equivalent of 121 cans of paint. The aircraft will used on domestic and international routes from KL LCCT.
