AirAsia X launches first New Zealand connection

Malaysian-based low-fare airline AirAsiaX has launched its latest international route from Kuala Lumpur to Christchurch in New Zealand. Operating four non-stop weekly services between KL and Christchurch from next April, the route becomes the fifteenth for the airline adding to destinations in Australia, India, Taiwan, China, UK, Korea, Japan, Tehran and soon France. “This announcement is great news for AirAsia and AirAsia X customers and great news for New Zealand,” said Tourism New Zealand chief executive Kevin Bowler. “Tourism New Zealand welcomes the increased connectivity to the world this new service will provide. We have strong growth in demand from South East Asia and this new service will go a long way to fulfilling this increased interest in visiting our stunning country.” Tony Fernnades, founder of AirAsia X, added “Rich in heritage, sophistication and a sense of adventure with an unforgettable scenic experience, Christchurch represents an important feeder market into our growing international network. The four times weekly flight will strengthen our business and tourism links with New Zealand, adding real convenience and providing affordable international travel for everyone.”
