Following the announcement that it will start Kuala Lumpur (KL) to Melbourne services from 12 November, Malaysian low-cost carrier AirAsia X, has said it plans to fly Australians to London for AU$500 (US$434), ChannelNews Asia has reported. No dates have yet been confirmed for the launch of the airline’s KL-London (Stansted), but Chief Executive Azran Osman-Rani said it hopes to extend services to the UK “soon”, with the total cost of return flights between Melbourne and London totalling no more than AU$1,000 (US$868).
“With the exception of peak periods, I think normally we would be looking at a AU$299 (US$260) fare from KL to London, so all-in (a return flight from Melbourne) of within A$1,000,” Azran said. “That would probably be in the first half of next year as soon as we get our UK service going,” he added.
AirAsia X added Melbourne as its latest Australian destination, following existing services to the Gold Coast and the planned launch of KL-Perth flights later this year. Services on the Melbourne route will initially run four times a week, with daily flights planned during the December-January peak season.
