Malaysia’s long haul low-cost carrier, AirAsia X has expressed its preference for using Stansted airport as its London hub when it starts flights to the UK in March 2009. Bernama has reported that the airline’s Chief Executive Officer, Azran Osman-Rani, said that the airline was still finalising operational details for the flights, but that Stansted would be its preferred option due to better connectivity.
“We hope to announce this year the start of sales for the flight to London,” he told reporters at the Routes KL 2008 conference.
Stansted Airport is located 56km northeast of London, and has recently been given government permission to expand, with annual passenger capacity expected to rise to 35 million.
