Airbus and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) have signed an agreement to continue cooperating for another five years.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) means that both parties will maintain their current positions, working together on safety challenges that arise from China’s fast growth.
The deal was signed by Airbus’ China president Eric Chen and Lu Erxue chief inspector of the CAAC (pictured).
“The success of the current and previous cooperation programme on safety gives us all reason to pursue the cooperation with Airbus,” said Lü Erxue. “Safety is of paramount importance for civil aviation. The best practices and latest technologies introduced by Airbus in the course of the cooperation support us a lot in addressing safety challenges, especially those arising from the rapid development of the civil aviation industry in China.”
Chen added: “Hundreds of millions of people fly on Airbus aircraft every year around the world and the number of Airbus aircraft operated by Chinese airlines is increasing rapidly. Working closely with our industry partners to ensure the highest levels of safety is Airbus’ top priority.
“Here in China we are pleased to continue to work closely with the Chinese civil aviation regulators and operators to further enhance the safety standards in Chinese civil aviation. We are proud to share expertise between CAAC and Airbus,” he added.
The MoU has been in place since 2002.
