Airbus has completed production of the A340 after 20 years of output. While new aircraft will no longer be built, Airbus said it will continue to support the current global fleet of A340s as long as they are in operation.
Four versions of the A340 were produced by Airbus – the A340-200, A340-300, A340-500 and A340-600 – providing extended operating ranges of up to 9,000 nautical miles (16,700km).
While the twin-aisle, four-engine aircraft enabled airlines to open new long-haul routes, it was often criticised for being uneconomical.
