Airbus has sealed another major deal in China, selling 100 A320 aircraft to the China Aircraft Leasing Company (CALC).
The order marks the confirmation of an initial agreement signed in December 2014, and will see CALC take delivery of 16 standard A320s, 10 extended A321s and 74 new A320neos. The order is worth more than US$10 billion at current list prices.
“Adding these A320 family aircraft, including the latest generation A320neo to our portfolio, means we can fully meet all our customers’ requirements in terms of low fuel burn, high reliability and unbeatable comfort,” said Dr Mike Poon, CEO & executive director of CALC. “The A320 family is… firmly established as a key asset in our fleet and the cornerstone of our single-aisle offering.”
Airbus’ chief operating officer, John Leahy, called the deal a “landmark order” and said it “demonstrates the continuing strong market demand in the short, medium and longer term” for the A320 series.
Including this new order, CALC’s total backlog with Airbus stands at 140 A320 aircraft. These form part of the total 11,000 A320 orders placed to date, more than 6,300 of which have already been delivered. This makes the A320 series the best-selling aircraft in Airbus history.
