Airbus and Rolls-Royce have announced plans to jointly develop the A350-1000 with more powerful Trent XWB engines, increasing the aircraft’s range and payload. The enhanced version of the Trent XWB engine will be developed to cater for the largest member of the A350 XWB family, and will deliver up to 97,000lbs of thrust on take-off, making it the most powerful engine ever developed for an Airbus aircraft.
The move will delay the plane’s entry into service by approximately two years however, with the A350-1000’s first delivery date now set for mid-2017.
