A new industry study commissioned by Amadeus has identified the untapped revenue potential of third-party ancillary services to the travel industry.
The ‘Cross-Sell Your Way to Profit’ report identified growth of 30% in revenues from third-party sales by 2015, and outlined the central role of mobile applications in driving new services in the next five years.
The report, conducted by Forrester Consulting, found that third-party ancillary revenue will grow 10 times faster than general sales in next five years, and is likely to represent 2.5% of total provider income by 2015.
While traditional third-party services such as insurance, car rental and hotel room sales are expected to remain popular, travel providers see great potential in a range of ‘extreme’ services, such as virtual reality tours, digital concierges and in-journey spa treatments.
