Aman has unveiled a new luxury resort in China’s UNESCO-listed ancient town of Lijiang.
The company’s third property in China, Amandayan is set on a hillside above the town and features a traditional design with classical Sino-Tibetan buildings set around courtyards.
There are 35 suites in total, all featuring traditional furniture and terraces with views of Lijiang and the surrounding mountains. Each courtyard offers between five and eight suites, making them suitable for families and groups.
“Adhering to the Aman philosophy, this property takes a one-of-a-kind location, explores every facet of its history, then incorporates culture, comfort and a personal touch to create a retreat that truly complements its surroundings,” said Olivier Jolivet, CEO of Aman.
A key feature of the resort is the preserved Wenchang Palace, which dates back to 1725 and was used as the examination hall for scholars taking the entrance exams to enter the Chinese civil service.
F&B options include The Lounge, which serves Western and Asian cuisine, Man Yi Xuan, which is dedicated to Yunnanese and Cantonese cuisine and features four private dining rooms, and a traditional tea house.
Other facilities at Amandayan include a spa with six treatment rooms and round wooden bathtubs, plus a gym, yoga studio, 20-metre heated outdoor swimming pool and private cinema. Finally the resort’s library features a large collection of books on the local area and Nakhi culture.
Amandayan joins Aman’s two other Chinese properties: Amanfayun in Hangzhou and Aman at the Summer Palace in Beijing.
