American Airlines has filed a lawsuit against Travelport and Orbitz Worldwide for damages in a supposedly anticompetitive distribution deal. The airline filed the suit on Monday as part of its ongoing battle with OTAs and GDS providers, when it was revealed AA would prefer sales to be booked through its Direct Connect system. It has accused the companies of incurring damage after inflating fees and it has also asked for a permanent injunction to disallow the GDS favouring other airlines’ flights over its own. In a statement today, Travelport said it will ‘vigorously defend’ the lawsuit due to factual inaccuracies. The GDS provider called the lawsuit ‘ludicrous and meritless’ after it stated that Galileo operates in the US, which it does not. The lawsuit is also said to criticise Travelport’s technology and its distribution agreement, despite its five year length.
