American Airlines load factor rises in August

American Airlines has reported a 1.2 percentage point rise in load factor last month. The carrier’s load factor was 84.7% in August 2009, after it successfully realigned capacity with demand. American’s capacity was cut 9.4% year-on-year, while passenger traffic decreased 8.1%. Domestic traffic fell 9.1% year-on-year on 11% less capacity, while international traffic decreased by 6.4% from August 2008, while capacity decreased of 6.7%.
