American Airlines and American Express Global Business Travel have agreed to explore a long-term arrangement relating to use of the Texas-based airline’s controversial AA DirectConnect booking platform. Under the deal, AMEX Business Travel will receive guaranteed direct long-term access to American Airlines’ fares, schedules, and other travel services via an AA DirectConnect link, accessed via one or more GDS. The arrangement is subject to the completion of a definitive agreement, and no other terms and conditions were disclosed.
AA DirectConnect has been at the centre of a major dispute between American Airlines and the travel technology sector, with GDS providers such as Travelport and Sabre accusing the airline of limiting customer choice and harming travel agents.
