American Cruise Line’s new paddlewheeler Queen of the Mississippi has been completed six weeks ahead of schedule.
The vessel departed Chesapeaken Shipyard in Salisbury Md, and is now on route to New Orleans, ready to start full operations from early August.
Charles A Robertson, president of American Cruise Lines confirmed that the ship was completed and that all performance, comfort and environmental parameters have exceeded the design expectations.
The 150-guest Queen of Mississippi boasts many staterooms that are twice the size of other boats on the Mississippi, almost all staterooms feature private balconies with sliding glass doors while still retaining the classic Victorian style of the late 1800s.
The line will operate its new paddlewheeler on the entire Mississippi River system including the Ohio and Cumberland Rivers. The increased speed of the Queen of Mississippi minimises the need for night travel and thus enabling cruise itineraries to provide more time in many of the river towns.
