Abu Dhabi’s hotels faced a 61 percent increase in occupancy through February compared to the same month last year, the Abu Dhabi Tourist Authority (ADTA) has revealed. The number of guests staying in the emirate increased by 17 percent to 175, 309, while revenue jumped 24 percent to AED440 million. “February puts us on an early track towards achieving our 2011 target with double-digit growth also now showing for the combined first two months of this year compared to last,” said Lawrence Franklin, strategy and policy director of ADTA. “The year-on-year February increase has been primarily driven by major events held in the emirate including the IDEX international defence show, the Al Ain Aerobatic Show and Gourmet Abu Dhabi.” The UK remains the emirate’s top market and 12 percent more Brits headed to the country last month. Other increases came from the US, Saudi Arabia, France and Russia markets.
