Britain boosts its inbound tourism sector

VisitBritain recently released its new figures for the first eleven months of 2014.

As per statistics, for January to November 2014, there were 32.4 million visits to the UK, seven percent more visits recorded than 2013. These overseas visitors spent just over GBP 20 billion, three percent more than 2013.

International visitors are on the rise in Britain. Figures suggest that there have been 13 m holiday visits to the UK, passing the previous annual holiday visit record of 12.7 m in 2013.

Patricia Yates, director of strategy and communications at VisitBritain said: “Inbound tourism continues to be the fastest growing sector of tourism industry in Britain.”

Sumathi Ramanathan, VisitBritain’s regional manager, Asia Pacific & Middle East further added “Britain welcomes just fewer than 600,000 visitors from the GCC; In the first six months of 2014 visits went up 12% compared to 2013.”

VisitBritain is focused on continuing to grow the value of inbound tourism in 2015. The tourism authority launched the Dune to … series campaign (Year 1: Dunes to Dales and Year 2 Dunes to Peaks) to promote British countryside in the GCC.

The 2015 forecasts suggest that there will be 35.1 m visits in 2015 generating visitor spending of GBP 22.2bn – an increase of 2.5% in volume and 4.5% in value. These spend figures would be a new record and break the GBP 22 bn barrier for the very first time. We are projecting a growth of 30% in number of visits from GCC by 2016 (700,000 visits).
