Dubai has received the dubious distinction of being ranked the fifth most intimidating destination among British tourists in a survey conducted by UK-based online travel agent, Sunshine. The survey, which involved 2900 respondents from across the UK, ranked the emirate behind Mexico, South Africa, Bulgaria and Jamaica in leaving tourists feeling concerned for their safety. The firm’s co-founder, Chris Brown, told Dubai-based newspaper 7 Days that the results suggested the emirate may be suffering the lingering eff ects of negative press in the UK. “Unfortunately, there’s a stigma attached to certain destinations, which put tourists off going there, particularly with the likes of South Africa and Dubai,” he said. “Britons obviously feel more at ease when holidaying in countries that are a little closer to home, such as in Europe, but people shouldn’t fear certain places. “Crime levels do vary in different countries, but providing you use common sense and respect the local customs, you can still have a perfectly enjoyable holiday.”
