There are some hotels that leave an exceptional lasting impression and the Coral Beach Hotel in Paphos does just that.
Situated on the beautiful, UNESCO-protected peninsula of Akamas, the Coral Beach Hotel is as pretty as it is vast. Located on prime beach territory, visitors need only venture a mere 10-minute walk to access the famed Coral Bay itself as well as the archaeological site of Maa Paliokastro for those curious to know more of the island’s history. Likewise Paphos Zoo and local church Agios Georgio’s are also within walking distance.
Mother Nature is the focal point of this traditional Cypriot hotel, and this is reflected in both the design and layout of this lovely property. Countless flowers, evergreen plants and water features means one is never too far away from the elements. Soft terracotta tones, stone walls, authentic woodwork and large, decorative clay pots also play their part in taking one back to a simpler time; evocative of that typical laid-back island lifestyle we all crave.
Yet the property itself still has all the modern amenities one would expect in a five-star hotel and boasts six restaurants, complete with al fresco dining; several pools including a large freshwater and separate kid’s pool; a wealth of sport and leisure activities, as well as its own boat harbour and privately-owned golden sandy beach. Perfect for those luxuriously long summer holidays or perhaps even a sun-soaked wedding.
Guests have the option of sea or mountain views both of which are stunning choices. I personally had the sea view and was not disappointed by the pastel orange, pink and purple hues of the evening sky as the sun put the day to rest. Each night I found myself rushing to my balcony to witness these gorgeous sunsets before readying myself for the evening’s activities.
The bedrooms themselves are comfortable and spacious, sound-proofed and inclusive of Wi-Fi and 24-hour room service. Hot beverage facilities are provided and guests are treated to fresh fruit, bottled water and minibar which are tended to daily. Added luxuries include large, fluffy robes and slippers to sink into at the end of a long day.
Spend your days lavishly lying by the pool sipping cocktails or choose from a wide range of in house activities; anything from aqua aerobics to crafts are available, or perhaps spoil yourself with a holistic treatment at the hotel’s health and beauty spa. A wellequipped gym means you can be sure to keep up your fitness levels whilst on holiday. Although some caution is maybe needed with the wide range of desserts if keeping trim is important to you; as an avid cake fan and general sweet-toothed fiend, I had trouble with this discipline.
Coral Beach is a wonderful hotel and I can honestly say that the staff are what make it truly unique. Attentive and polite without ever being invasive, they know exactly how to engage with their guests and these interactions are genuine. With 422 rooms to tend to it would be easy to treat your guests as a large faceless mass, yet the staff at Coral Beach seem to really know their clientele on a personal level; and with repeat custom dating back 20 years it’s easy to see why!
