Clinton “encouraged” by revived India-Pakistan talks

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said that the United States was “encouraged” by the revived peace talks between nuclear-armed rivals India and Pakistan.Clinton spoke at a news conference after she talked with top Indian officials about Pakistan, the U.S. withdrawal plans for Afghanistan and ways to broaden economic ties between the United States and India, Associated Press reported.Her talks came less than a week after a terror attack in Mumbai killed 20 people, in the worst terror strike in India since the 2008 rampage that killed 166 people in Mumbai.Meanwhile, external affairs minister SM Krishna made a strong pitch with Clinton to ease visa regulations that have adversely affected Indian IT companies. He urged US to give more temporary work visa for Indian IT professionals and Clinton assured the minister that she would direct her officials to look into the matter, Hindustan Times said.She is now in Chennai.
