The Goldman Sachs Group plans to make a takeover bid for full control of USJ Co., operator of the Universal Studios Japan theme park in Osaka, Bloomberg reported.
The company currently holds a 41% stake in USJ, and is preparing to acquire the remaining shares in a deal worth an estimated JPY51 billion (US$568 million), the report said.
Universal Studios Japan opened in 2001 and has seen attendance figures slide to 8.6 million last year, compared to 9.9 million five years previous, Bloomberg added.
