China is “highly likely” to suffer a strong earthquake in the near future, the Beijing Times reported a senior official from the China Earthquake Center (CEC), as saying. The prediction by the CEC’s Chief Forecaster, Sun Shihong, said that a 7+ magnitude quake could be expected after two recent smaller quakes rattled Xinjiang and Jilin provinces earlier this month. He said the country should be alert and take preventative measures.
